About Chainlink
Chainlink brings external data to smart contracts
Chainlink is not a single general-purpose chain that only settles transfers. It is a set of decentralized oracle networks connecting external data, computation services, and blockchains so smart contracts can read standardized on-chain results.
DONs reduce single-provider dependence through reporting and aggregation
A decentralized oracle network has multiple nodes independently retrieve and report data, then applies an aggregation rule for the specific data source. Node diversity, source quality, aggregation, and contract configuration define the practical reliability boundary.
LINK is the native token for service payments and security mechanisms
LINK originated as an ERC-677 token on Ethereum and is used to pay for oracle services and support node economics. It is not the universal gas asset of one blockchain, so service demand, node incentives, and token distribution should be considered separately.
Chainlink results depend on the specific DON configuration
Chainlink data is not one context-free source of truth. Each feed has its own node set, sources, reporting threshold, and on-chain aggregation contract, so integrators should review that configuration before assessing delay, failure, or data-bias risk.
